Bird Bam Beth teaches American Mahjong classes and events in Portland, Oregon. This page covers what we collect when you buy a ticket, join a waitlist, book a class, or sign up for the newsletter, who else sees it, and how to ask us to change or delete it.

What we collect

Buying tickets through the buy button on birdbambeth.com collects a name and email for each seat, the name you'd like on your nametag, a phone number for the person buying, and pronouns if you choose to share them. A nametag and pronouns are optional on every seat, and so is a phone number for anyone other than the buyer. Stripe then collects your billing address, phone number and card details directly on its own checkout screen. Card details never touch our own servers.

Joining the waitlist for a sold-out event collects your name, email and phone number.

After a purchase, the confirmation page lets you change the nametag and pronouns for the table. That can never change the email or phone number already on your order.

Signing up for the newsletter collects your email address, and your name if the form you used asks for one.

Booking a private lesson collects your first and last name, email, phone number, the street address where the class will happen (usually someone's home), anything you type in the notes box, how many students are coming, and whether you ticked the text-reminder box.

We also automatically collect which ad or link brought you to the site (UTM tags, and Google or Meta click IDs) and your IP address. The IP address is used to keep the booking form from being spammed and to run a quick Cloudflare check that a person, not a bot, is filling it out.

Who else sees it

Running classes and events means a handful of outside services see part of what we collect. Each one sees only what it needs to do its own job:

• Stripe processes payments and sees your name, email, phone, billing address and card details. Card numbers never reach our servers.
• Resend sends confirmations, receipts and reminder emails. We do not track whether you open or click them.
• Twilio sends the text reminders described below, for people who opt in. Twilio sees the phone number and the text itself.
• Google Calendar holds Beth's class schedule. A private lesson booking becomes a calendar event carrying the customer's name, email, phone, address and notes.
• Cloudflare hosts the site and runs the bot check on the booking form.
• Calendly runs the class booking widget on our class sign-up page. It collects its own form data and sets its own cookies, under Calendly's own privacy policy.
• Google Tag Manager loads on every page of this site, and it carries a Meta (Facebook and Instagram) pixel and Google Ads conversion tracking. Both set their own cookies and measure how our ads are doing. Ahrefs Analytics also loads on every page, for basic traffic reporting.
• Google Sheets holds a mirrored copy of newsletter signups, and feeds a reporting dashboard built from our records.
• Backblaze B2 holds an offsite copy of our nightly backups, in case anything ever happens to our main hosting account.
• HubSpot holds our historical customer records, and still receives lesson enquiries that come in through Calendly.

Text message reminders

Only people who booked a class and ticked the box get a text. The box starts out unticked.

That's the actual checkbox from our booking form, word for word.

If you leave it unchecked

We won't text you. Your booking goes through exactly the same either way. Ticking the box is never a condition of buying anything.

How many texts

One reminder the day before class, and one more if the time or place changes. That's usually one or two texts per booking. No promotions, no sales.

Cost

We don't charge you anything to receive them. Your own carrier's message and data rates may apply.

Opting out

Reply STOP to any text and they stop right away, and stay stopped. Reply START to start them again. Reply HELP for contact details. Or email beth@birdbambeth.com and we'll take you off the list, no keyword required.

What your number is used for

Your phone number is used for these class reminders and to reach you about a class you booked. It is never sold, rented, or handed to anyone else for marketing.

How long we keep things

We keep your records for as long as we need them to run classes and events. Backups of our systems are kept for 90 days: our primary backup copy is swept out after 90 days, and a second, offsite copy is kept for 90 days too, in case anything ever happens to our main hosting account.

Getting your information corrected or deleted

There is no self-service button for this today. Email beth@birdbambeth.com and we'll look up what we have on you, correct it, or delete it, by hand.

We never sell, rent, or hand your information to anyone else for their own marketing.
